Friday 6/03/16 Big Sur to Moro Bay

The morning began early as usual when sleeping out. It had been a cool night with a heavy ocean mist.

We were up early after a restful night sleeping soundly with the sound of the pounding surf. Being in a remote area we headed out on an empty stomach looking for food and thankfully came across a great breakfast spot only about 10 miles down the road.

It was a foggy and chilly morning since we were right along the coast.

As the morning wore on and the sun rose up over the mountains to our east the sun began to break through.

.......and by mid morning the sky was sunny and clear.

The coastal route 1 that we followed rose and fell a novel and then back down to the ocean.

When at higher elevations we saw below us the ocean of fog.

And Kevin my intrepid guide lead me on.

Around mid day the tall mountains that came right down to the water flattened out.

We came upon a beach in the afternoon that was closed off to people and protected for this group of mating elephant seals that were packed onto this beach. Yo could see them lying everywhere sleeping and rearing after spending the previous 9 months out at sea. There are some young males in this picture that were practicing their mating ritual where they fight to determine dominance.

In late afternoon we came the the quaint little beach town of CYucas. It had been a long day riding after the early start and my guide found us a great spot for an afternoon "recovery beverage" as Keven referred to a cold draft beer and some nachos to get us to Moro Bay.

We camped in a nice CA state park with a hot shower and great Italian dinner.
