Thursday 6/02/16 Monterey to the Big Sur

We woke on Thursday after a comfortable night of hotel luxury in Monterey. Heading out since we were right on the coast it was overcast and cool.

.......but after a short while the sun broke through and we rode along some beautiful coastal preserved lands. We rode along a section of the coast on the 17 Mile Drive that took us past some very famous and very exclusive golf courses and private homes.

Kevin looking to tee off with some ladies at Pebble Beach golf course.

.......more of the beautiful costal cypress trees.

And some really impressive homes and castles.

But owing to exclusivity of the area we saw more NO TRESPASING signs the ever. Some with some very intimidating threatening messages.

...and the famous iconic "lone cypress".

Just past Pebble Beach was the cute very prosperous town of Carmel. I found there is no Carmeloooo, where my touring inspiration and bicycling role model, father-in-law Bobby has a friend. I have heard of gated estates and communities, but this was a gated TOWN.

We didn't find Carmel, but we found Carmelo street. Bobby is this where your Booth Bay friend lived?

Then there was one of the old original Spanish missions.

The road ahead looked pretty interesting for the next 74 miles.

....and it as as we approached the Big Sur...

...and there were no disappointments.....

The fog that was formed by the cool ocean against rye warm land created layers of clouds that we passed in and out of as we climbed and defended back to sea level.

This was an incredible spot where a waterfall fell from the cliffs above right down onto the beach. It was a spot my guide Keven knew of that I would have missed were it not for his experience and knowledge of the route.

We ended the day with a great meal, cliff side with this view before turning in at a State campground where we slept practically on the beach with waves crashing no more than 20 yards from my little tent.

We traded tails of the road and got and gave advice with some other through cyclists around a camp fire before a good nights sleep.
